Super Stage Modula Front Channel System |
The MX-2000 corner mate crossover provides a 200Hz crossover permitting use of the door speakers strictly as a woofers. These woofers may then be supplemented with midrange drivers which now, after the MX-2000, do not need to handle any bass. Therefore they can be quite small. Since they are so compact many more locations can be used.

|
In the diagram shown each MX-2000 is driven from one channel of a two channel amp - blue and red lines in the illustration - which are each actually two conductor interconnects. Each woofer is simply connected directly to each MX-2000.
For total control of system balance relative to the woofers the output of each MX-2000 (above 200Hz) is input directly to two LPADs. Each green line in the illustration is actually two conductors. Each MX-2000 has stacked output terminals. This means two midrange drivers could be connected to each MX-2000.
Here two LPADs take the place of the (four total) midrange drivers to add variability.
In the illustration each LP-1 is a stereo (two channel) PAD. Two decks are used. Here the first deck of each LPAD is connected to both of the midrange driver terminal sets of one MX-2000. The second deck of each LPAD is connected to both terminals of the other MX-2000. This allows each LPAD to control a different pair of midrange speakers in stereo. Each MX-2000 is a mono unit. In the diagram we have kick panel midrange and center stage (on the dashboard) midrange pairs installed. The Kick Panel level is a stereo level control for both Kick Panel midrange drivers. The L-R balance could still be altered at the head unit but this would act on the kick panel and dash mids as well as the door woofers as a system. We go a step further here by adding tweeters to the dash system. The Master - Set Stage Level controls the sound to the dash speakers and also to the tweeters in the A-pillars since these are crossed over after this Lpad by the 560i in the drawing.
|
The 560i is interposed to make the above-the-dash system it's own separate two-way system. The tweeter levels in this two-way above-the-dash sub-system can finally be controlled independently by the Tweeter Level setting LPAD. |
|
Therefore the master Set Stage Level raises and lowers the Center Stage system level relative to the woofers. The Kick Panel speakers are set the same way. This passive setup provides total control of the balance among the four elements in this front system.
Using Lpads to drive the crossovers does alter the crossover slopes, within bounds, at some settings but can simply be accounted for in the overall system alignment by a small change in the tweeter Lpad setting. Since the bass has been removed by the MX-2000 the power levels are modest.
